Scientific career

Annemie Schols obtained a PhD degree in the domain of Respiratory Medicine at Maastricht University in 1991. In 2004, she was appointed as professor of Nutrition and Metabolism in Chronic Diseases. Between 2006 and 2020, Annemie Schols was scientific director of NUTRIM, School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism at Maastricht UMC+. She was furthermore initiator and coordinator of the Maastricht University Interfaculty Program ‘Eatwell’ (2011-2020).

Nationally, Schols was member of the Netherlands Health Council and of the standing committees ‘Nutrition’ and ‘Health Research’ (2006-2016), the Executive Board of Top Institute Food & Nutrition (2014-2020) and she has been one of the driving forces of the National Program Lung Research; between 2016-2018 as President of the Netherlands Respiratory Society. 

In 2020, Annemie Schols was appointed as dean of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences and vice-president of the Executive Board of Maastricht UMC+.
