Frequency
This course is organized twice a year, usually in the Spring and Fall.
Target group
Persons that autonomously perform actions with dispersible radioactive substances within the scope of their profession. Acquiring a diploma also grants the authority to supervise the use of dispersible radioactive substances in a laboratory with a D-classification.
Study goals
After taking this course, the participant is able to:
- supervise the actions (s)he carries responsibility for, uphold the related legal requirements and guidelines, and offer adequate advice concerning content with regards to preventive measures, in cooperation with the radiation safety expert (RPE or CD);
- contribute to an adequate settlement of a foreseeable unintentional event, or imminent incident or emergency;
- actively work on their own knowledge and expertise, as well as the knowledge or expertise of those people (s)he is responsible for.
- Furthermore the participant has gained: knowledge, competences attitudes and skills that are specifically linked to radioactive substances in dispersible form.
Content and language
The course is offered in English. Good proficiency of the English language is required.
The program consists of face-to-face education, tutorials and practical assignments, and is concluded with an examination training and an exam. For further details, please consult the page program.
Prior knowledge and study materials
This course requires basic knowledge on mathematics (including logarithmic calculations). Study materials are provided by the course organizer; each participant must have their own calculator which is able to perform logarithmic calculations.
Organization
The course is organized by the Radiation Protection Unit Randwyck. The quality is being assessed and controlled by the responsible officer for radiation protection education within the Radiation Protection Unit, and the Exam Committee radiation protection education Randwyck. The organization has been formalized and written down in a procedure and exam regulations, and all conditions regarding enrollment can be found in the Enrollment conditions. The Radiation Protection Unit has the right to cancel a course if there aren't enough registrations. This will be announced no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the course.
UM and MUMC+ have been accredited by the Dutch Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation protection (ANVS) for offering educational programs on radiation protection.
Cost
Employees of UM, MUMC+, Maastro, Maastro Proton therapy B.V. and Brightlands Incubators Maastricht B.V. can participate in this course for free. However, for registered participants who withdraw within the last twee weeks prior to the start of the program, a fee is charged to compensate for administration costs.
For external participants, a fee of € 1650 (VAT not applicable) applies. For registered participants who withdraw within the last twee weeks prior to the start of the program, a fee is charged to compensate for administration costs.

Lost diploma
