Arie van der Lugt

Arie van der Lugt is a teaching animal from the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. Over the last 15 years, he has played a central role in teaching and teaching management in the Psychology bachelor and master's programs.

Bringing critical and creative thinking together

Arie developed a critical thinking course which has become a valued core academic course in the second year of the bachelor program.

Arie: ''The 3 C’s of the so-called 21st century skills - collaboration, creativity and critical thinking - are crucial for success in an increasingly fast-changing world. A world where information and misinformation, knowledge and bullshit are all readily available at the tips of our fingers (or nowadays, at the swipe of our thumbs). Most of my teaching activity has focused on these three important skills, that we might just as well call Pre-Socratic or 6th century BC skills. In this interactive workshop, I will share the most important insights that I have gained in the last 15 years, and I hope to hear about your critical and creative adventures out in the wide, wild world after graduation.''

Arie also set-up the first-year teambuilding exercise and student conference which have become pivotal moments in the introduction of Psychology students to academic life. In addition, he is the faculty coordinator of the Marble and Premium excellence programs.
