In memory of Teun Rutten

With dismay and disbelief, we heard of the unexpected death of our charming, 23-year-old colleague Teun Rutten.

Teun has been working at our laboratory since November 2016. He started as a trainee during his studies at Fontys TNW Eindhoven (Applied Science, Life Science). After his internship he was appointed as a research analyst in the laboratory.

A few weeks ago there were sudden concerns about his health. Initially, the relatively good prognosis made us hope that everything would turn out well. Last Sunday, however, the sad news reached us that he died during his treatment.

The dismay in our department is enormous; we still cannot believe it. Teun was sweet, social and cheerful; he was very popular in the group and with students. Teun had quickly developed into an important pillar in the department. He did his job as a lab technician with great skill and passion. He was a nice and highly valued colleague. We are going to miss him enormously.

We wish his family and friends a lot of strength in coming to terms with this big loss.

You can pay your last respects on Thursday 12 July from 19.00 to 19.45 pm at the funeral home in Boschhoven-Weert, St. Odastraat 24.

The funeral takes place on Saturday, 14 July at 10.30, in the O.L.V. Visitatie and H. Antonius van Paduakerk, Grootschoterweg in Budel-Schoot. Subsequently, Teun will be buried at the General Cemetery.

On behalf of the Department of Pediatrics,

Prof. Luc Zimmermann (department chairman) and Dr Tim Wolfs (head of laboratory)
