Sitting still in a hall? A classical concert can be different

Silence and sitting still during classical concerts were always part of the deal, you might think. We consider classical music timeless, so the same must be true for etiquette. But do we still want that? Can we do it differently? Veerle Spronck is concerned with the ways you can set up concerts - but she focuses on the present, and this summer she obtained her doctorate from the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music.

That center was founded in 2017 as a collaboration of Maastricht University, Hogeschool Zuyd and members of philharmonie zuidnederland. Its mission: to experiment with new ways of arranging concerts that challenge audiences to participate.
