The competition involved a written round and a two-day oral round, which took place on 9 and 10 May 2019 at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. The UM team was comprised of Daniele Lotti, Katrijn Vermeulen, Gabriele Stravinskaite and Gabriele Mirizio, and their coach Dersim Yabasun (Department International and European Law).

After successfully submitting their written memorials, the UM team competed against teams from China, Afghanistan and Belgium. The oral pleadings were evaluated by judges, international experts in the field of international refugee law and experienced practitioners of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The moot court case concerned the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and the issue of non-refoulement.
