The EVC is an annual conference where the latest developments and insights in the field of vascular surgery are presented. Participating surgeons from all over the world come to attend the event in Maastricht for training and education. For example, the experts can take part in a simulation of special situations in an operating theatre. To give visitors an impression of various complex, vascular surgical interventions, a 3D movie has also been specially produced for the occasion.

Complex surgery

The 3D images include recordings made during an aortic root reconstruction. This operation is considered to be one of the most complex surgical procedures, in which the part of the aorta is replaced by a plastic one. Jacobs, who performed the surgery himself, wants to insightfully show his colleagues the details of such an operation. ‘Ultimately, the goal is to inspire the younger generation of vascular surgeons to become proficient in complex techniques’, says Jacobs. ‘This 3D film is an excellent tool for this and also contributes to the training goals that attract people to the EVC.’
