HEEC-project meeting
On June 23 and 24 2016, the 2nd meeting of the research project titled “Energy Efficiency of Households in Cities: A Multi-method Analysis” (the HEEC project) took place at the International Centre for Integrated assessment and Sustainable development (ICIS) of Maastricht University. The HEEC-project is funded by the Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP) – Smart Energy in Smart Cities, Maastricht University (ICIS) collaborate in thro project with the Chinese Academy of Science (CEEP).
Under the leadership of Prof. René Kemp from Maastricht University, the project will investigate energy efficiency determinants for energy use and passenger transport in households in cities. During the meeting all partners presented their contribution to the project, discussed the preliminary results and discussed the further research agenda of this project. Professor Fan (Director of Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research – Beijing) gave a lecture in which she explained an optimization model in order to examine how an ETS will save cost to achieve the reduction target in 2020 in China.
Vladimir Udalov and Nan Yu (both University of Wuppertal) also participated in the project and joint the meeting on the second day. The next HEEC meeting will take place in China in April 2017.
About the HEEC Project
The HEEC project “Energy Efficiency of Households in Cities: A Multi-method Analysis” is a collaboration between Maastricht University (ICIS) and Chinese Academy of Science (CEEP). The project is part of Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP) – Smart Energy in Smart Cities, a collaborative research programme by China and the Netherlands with the aim to promote long-term collaboration among scientists from both countries.
The project will investigate energy efficiency determinants for passenger transport and energy use in households in cities. The analysis consists of five research components:
- a decomposition analysis of city energy consumption,
- a survey analysis of household behaviour and motivations behind energy consumption,
- an analysis of the neighbourhood effect of energy consumption,
- a policy analysis based on choice experiments, and
- a foresight and scenario analysis of household energy consumption in The Netherlands and China.
