In the context of the bachelor course IP in the Digital Single Market and the Intellectual Property and Knowledge Management (IPKM) master programme, we proudly present the expert lecture by Mrs. Fiona Gao and Iida Kambur from LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions on 15 September 2022, at 18:30 CEST in the Statenzaal, Faculty of Law. You will learn about real-life cases and challenges faced by clients in protecting their IP assets online, including counterfeit, copyright infringement, grey trade, phishing and misuse of trademarks. Abstract

The lecture will provide a view into online brand protection work conducted by the LexisNexis IP team. You will learn about real-life cases and challenges faced by clients in protecting their IP assets online. The lecture will also cover different types of IP infringements brand owners encounter online, including counterfeit, copyright infringement, grey trade, phishing and misuse of trademarks.

The speakers will also discuss the steps which can be taken to take down IP infringements online, and some of the legal challenges involving online detection and enforcement work. You will also find out about how technology is used to support online brand protection consultants to do their work efficiently and bring value to our clients.

At the end, the floor will be open for discussion and there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

Profile of speakers

Fiona Gao

Fiona is working in LexisNexis Legal & Professional as a director of strategy and business development, to build a new solution in the IP department. 

With over 8 years’ experience in the legal industry, Fiona is an expert in advising international companies on their online brand protection strategies, IP risk evaluation, KPI measurements and IP strategy implementation. Fiona has built her sales and operational teams in LexisNexis and currently manages multi-million dollars revenue in online brand protection department.

Fiona graduated from The University of Amsterdam with an MBA degree. Her passion lies in growing the business and team. When she isn’t working, Fiona loves travelling, jogging, reading and watching movies.

Iida Kambur

Iida is the head of online brand protection operations and consultancy at LexisNexis IP. She holds a M.Sc. degree in Business Administration and Economics with major in IP Law from Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, and LL.M. in European Law from Leiden University.

Iida has been working with legal tech involving patents, designs, financial reporting and brand protection since 2015. In her current role, Iida leads an international team of consultants and provides strategic and legal guidance to brand owner clients across industries. Her focus is to make sure that the clients get the best possible outcomes and are successful using LexisNexis brand protection solutions. In her free time, Iida enjoys exploring new places, learning languages and running.
