Course Next-Generation Reproductive Medicine

On 13-15 October 2022 Maastricht UMC+ will host the ESHG hybrid campus course on Next-Generation Reproductive Medicine. This advanced course includes three days of lectures, interspersed with interactive elements. Each module of the course is presented by experts in that specific topic, like preconception, preimplantation and prenatal healthcare. CME accreditation has been applied for.

About the campus course

Healthcare is increasingly influenced by genomic technologies. These technologies have applications in rare diseases, but also in cancer, infectious diseases and pathology. One area, where the impact of the genomics revolution is particularly clear, is human reproduction. Genomic technologies are changing how we perform reproductive care as we speak. But even greater improvements are on the horizon.

The general goal of this campus course is to illuminate the importance of new technologies for enhancing current reproductive healthcare. Specific aims include:

  • the state-of-the-art technologies for preconception, preimplantation, prenatal and neonatal care;
  • innovative approaches that will be translated into the clinic in the near future;
  • interactive discussions on the responsible implementation of new technologies, including ethical, legal and societal implications (ELSI).

Accreditation

CME accreditation has been applied for.

Target audience

This course is intended for specialists involved in reproductive medicine, including clinical geneticists, clinical embryologists, gynecologists, pediatricians (neonatologists), ethicists and social scientists. The design is aimed at (highly) skilled and educated professionals (i.e. master level and higher) and specialists (in training). Attendees should have a general interest in providing a better reproductive care through the development and implementation of new knowledge and innovative technologies.

Three good reasons to attend

After following the course, you will be able to:

  1. demonstrate what is new about new technologies and how they differ from traditional methods used in the current practice;
  2. describe intuitively how and why new technologies can lead to a better reproductive care;
  3. identify major methodological limitations and pitfalls encountered during the implementation of new technologies.
