Meet, learn & connect (FULL)

THIS EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED. Would you like to connect with fellow alumni and gain new knowledge on historical works in the fields of philosophy, history, anatomy, literature, theology, law and various social sciences?

On May 12th, 2022 we will organize a unique alumni event full of nostalgia, lifelong learning and inspiration at the Maastricht University Library.

The closed stacks of the University Library at the Grote Looiersstraat 17 contain a treasure trove of historical works in the fields of philosophy, history, anatomy, literature, theology, law and various social sciences. The core of these Special Collections is the renowned Jesuit library, with books from various monasteries and seminaries, including the former Maastricht Jesuit Monastery (Canisianum) at Tongersestraat 53. The oldest books date from the end of the fifteenth century. Curator and UM alumnus Odin Essers is happy to show you some highlights, including a medieval manuscript, a hand-coloured 1628 atlas by famous cartographer Gerard Mercator, a personal prayer book of Lodewijk Napoleon and a collection of beautifully illustrated fairy tale books from the early 20th century. Furthermore, Odin Essers will tell you about the background and contents of the Special Collections and how the library increases visibility, usability and sustainability.
