"Current Challenges In The Treatment Of Chronic Limb Threatening Ischaemia"
More and more patients are suffering from peripheral arterial disease of the lower extremities, caused by narrowing or blockage of the blood vessels. Often, vascular surgery is needed because of a high risk of amputation and mortality. Several crucial aspects regarding the optimal management of these patients are unclear. This thesis investigated two current challenges in the treatment of patients with critical limb ischaemia: the effectiveness of any kind of operation in patients older than 80 years and the management of groin wound infections as complication of vascular surgery. Important steps were made towards a better understanding of the disease, which is essential to provide the best medical care for affected patients.
