45th Dies Natalis
Due to the extended lockdown, the Executive Board has decided to drastically change the plans for the celebration of the 45th UM Dies Natalis on 29 January. The awarding of the honorary doctorate to prof. dr. Jaap van Dissel, as well as all other honours and awards, will be moved to the Opening Academic Year, on 30 August 2021. Instead, Rector Rianne Letschert will address the entire UM community online on the Dies Natalis, 29 January.
The theme of this year's celebration was Recognising and rewarding the diverse ways in which academics make a difference. This is one of the themes Letschert will adress in her short (max 10 minutes) lecture, together with blended education and effective leadership. You can watch the speech from Friday 29 January, 15.30, on our YouTube channel. Or read more and watch the video here.

Rector Magnificus Prof. Dr. Rianne Letschert: ‘Through the “Recognition and Rewards” movement, we will be giving space to the different talents that a university needs within the fields of research, education, impact, leadership and patient care, and also offering people career prospects in these areas,’ says Rector Rianne Letschert. ‘It’s a great honour for me to offer Jaap van Dissel an honorary doctorate in this context: like no other, he is a symbol of how a scientist can fulfil a role with huge impact on society. This is certainly worthy of our recognition and rewards.’
