Taxation in the Digital Economy: State of the Art & Unresolved Issues

The impact of the digitisation of the global economy on international taxation has is not a new topic. Following the 1998 Ottawa Taxation Framework, the OECD had instituted the Technical Advisory Group on E-Commerce in 2001, which presented its report in 2003. The topic has now regained urgency within the parameters of the OECD/G20 BEPS project. This urgency, fuelled by new found political capital, has resulted in states undertaking unilateral measures, with multilateral solutions not achieving consensus. This raises business and policy concerns of how taxing rights should be exercised and issues of double taxation.

As part of our Excellence Programme on International Tax Law & Policy, we are organising a day-long seminar to discuss issues from an industry, practice as well as policy perspective on Tuesday, 12 March 2019 from 08:30 – 16:00, at Stadhuis Maastricht.
