In het Interreg Northwest Europe project CurCol onderzoeken we de kleurstofproductie en -toepassing in bioplastic en papieren verpakkingen, op basis van de gele natuurlijke kleurstof curcumine. En dat proces begint al bij het telen van de curcuma plant. De weinige beschikbare biologisch afbreekbare kleurstoffen voldoen momenteel niet aan de industriële kwaliteitscriteria, waardoor de verpakkingsindustrie deze nu niet als alternatief voor op fossiele grondstoffen gebaseerde kleurstoffen inzet. Partners uit Ierland, Duitsland, België en Nederland slaan in het project CurCol de handen ineen om dit te doorbreken.
