UM asks ABP for more sustainable policy

25 February 2021

Maastricht University is asking pension fund ABP (which manages the pensions of UM employees) for a planned approach that will allow the fund to cut ties with sectors with a commitment to fossil fuels as soon as possible. "The climate crisis is one of the greatest threats to our global society," writes the Executive Board in a letter to ABP. "Listening to our staff and students and inspired by their initiatives, we ask you for actions." Read the full letter.

The letter follows a dialogue last year, in which the UM Executive Board president engaged in conversation with the ABP board president, along with a representative of Fossil Free Maastricht. Sustainability is one of Maastricht University's core values, so it is happy to offer its scientific expertise to support the pension fund in the steps it needs to take in the future.
