Mathieu Segers posthumously honored with Sign of Merit Maastricht
The family of Maastricht professor Mathieu Segers has been awarded the City of Maastricht's Sign of Merit by Deputy Mayor Frans Bastiaens. Segers died in December.
Important for Maastricht
Segers was professor of Contemporary European History and European Integration at Maastricht University. "The city of Maastricht is very indebted to Mathieu Segers. Thanks for the way he put Maastricht on the map in Europe, how he enhanced the city's European profile and how he made his contribution to European unification," Bastiaens said in his speech.
Segers died on Dec. 16 at the age of 47. He had been incurably ill for some time.
