Video: Invisible protectors: how bacteria from nature can prevent allergies

In the Netherlands, more and more infants are suffering from allergies, such as asthma or eczema. This seems to be linked to our modern indoor lifestyle, which reduces our contact with bacteria from nature.

While playing outdoors, infants ingest up to 60 milligrams of soil, full of beneficial bacteria. At NUTRIM, Niels van Best is researching how these natural bacteria can strengthen the immune system of young infants and help prevent allergies. He explains in this video how he uses baby poop and soil samples to study these 'invisible protectors'.
